When
planning the construction of the glass pyramid at the entrance of the
crystalline Louvre Museum in Paris, which was first established in 1980,
the plan was greeted with anger. Many people believe building a modern building in front of the historic buildings of the Louvre is a mockery. The
building of the museum was built in a former ancient fortress, the
development was begun in 1546 during the reign of Francois I stands as
the Kingdom of the King of France until the end of the 17th century.
In 1793, the building was officially opened as a public museum. In
1980 the building has become a crowded, one side is used as the place
of the Government and the front office is used as a parking lot. As part of his Grand Project, President Mitterrand asked monument to expanded.
THE GRAND PROJECT
The Louvre pyramid is known as a major project. The
project was implemented during the 1980s on the advice of President
Francois Mitterrand (1919 – 1996) to provide a series of monument which
symbolises the modern role of France in the fields of Arts, politics,
and the world economy at the end of the 20th century. The
other major project is including the Grande Arche de la Defense,
marble-plated glass Tower national library by Dominique Perrault, and
Opera Bastille by Carlos Otts, glass Building which was inaugurated in
1989 is the recognition of the revolution occurred on the anniversary of
1789.
The Tip Of The Iceberg
With
this brief idea, American architect, Ieoh Ming China-Pei, a radical
plan to shift to find the cars of the Cour Napoleon at the front
entrance of the museum and build a page surrounded the great wall under
the ground. Now, the glass pyramid covered 70
feet (22 m), there is also a public area can be accomplished by tracing
the dramatic spiral stairs. The project will also
develop access to the Gallery is located on three sides of the
building, and makes it easy for visitors to get around the building more
easily. In addition, there is a new auditorium,
Cafe and restaurant, plus supporting space techniques needed modern
Gallery with an international reputation.
Choose the form of the pyramid of Pei controversy so as to correspond to the architecture of the Louvre. Another reason why he chose to use the pyramid is that structurally the pyramid is the most stable form. The
pyramid was completed in 1989, and then inverted pyramid that Pei added
smaller size (known as the pyramid upside down) on the front of the
museum. Inverted pyramid serves as glass roofs for the visitors and a shopping area that lies underneath. Despite
opposition to the plan was reaping, the Pyramid has become one of the
symbols that can be identified quickly, a symbol both of course the
Eiffel Tower.
